Have you heard about Team Copilot yet? It is the latest addition to Microsoft’s suite of AI tools and is expected to be available later this year.

Team Copilot functions as an advanced, AI-powered assistant designed to enhance team collaboration. While Microsoft’s 365 Copilot serves as a personal assistant for individual tasks such as drafting emails or recapping missed meetings, Team Copilot elevates this concept by focusing on group activities.

Team Copilot can assist your team in three primary ways:

  1. Meeting Facilitator: During a Teams video call, Team Copilot can take notes visible and editable by all participants. It can also create follow-up tasks, track time for each agenda item and assist with in-person or hybrid meetings when integrated with Teams Rooms.

  2. Group Text Chat Assistant: In group text chats within Teams, Copilot can summarize lengthy conversations to highlight the most crucial information. Additionally, it can answer questions from the group, simplifying the process of staying informed without sifting through extensive chat history.

  3. Project Manager: Team Copilot can manage projects by creating tasks and goals within Microsoft’s Planner app. It can assign these tasks to team members and even complete some tasks autonomously, such as drafting a blog post. Team Copilot will notify team members when their input is required.

Productivity extends beyond individual efforts; it encompasses effective teamwork. By assisting with group-oriented tasks, Team Copilot can significantly enhance overall productivity.

It is important to note that while Team Copilot is incredibly helpful, it does not replace the role of a human meeting facilitator. It will not lead meetings or ensure inclusivity, but it will create agendas, track time, take notes, and share files.

Team Copilot functions more as a business insights assistant, aiding in group interactions and meetings rather than moderating comments or maintaining order. However, future updates may expand its capabilities.

Team Copilot will be available in preview later this year for Microsoft 365 customers with a Copilot subscription. While it remains a work in progress, its potential to transform team productivity is immense.

Stay tuned for its release and consider how it could integrate into your workflow to enhance your team’s productivity.
