Sasha opened the discussion with a startling statistic: 70-75% of critical incidents are identity-related. As we see an unprecedented rise in identity-based attacks, it’s crucial to recognise that these threats are growing more sophisticated, aided by advancements in AI.

Ollie emphasised the accessibility of these attacks, noting how they have evolved from complex schemes to easily executed attempts that anyone can perform from their laptops.
Understanding Token Theft
A significant portion of our discussion centered on token theft—a tactic used by hackers to bypass multi-factor authentication (MFA). Sasha explained:
Token theft is when you enter your credentials on a fake login page crafted by hackers. They can capture your username, password, and MFA code in real-time.
This method highlights the importance of not just having MFA but understanding how it can still be compromised.
The Business Impact
As we discussed the implications for businesses, it became clear that small to medium-sized organisations are particularly vulnerable. Despite the misconception that hackers target only large enterprises, 70% of breaches last year involved SMBs.
Sasha pointed out that many organisations still lack basic security measures, such as MFA, putting them at significant risk.
Forty-three percent of organizations faced a breach last year, and many didn’t have MFA enabled.
